The world second fastest woman over the 10km distance, Emmaculate Anyango Achol will make her debut in India at the 16th edition of the TCS World 10K Bengaluru slated for April 28, 2024 in India.
The 24 year-old who is also the 2019 African U20 3000m silver medallist, clocked 28:57 early this year at the 10K Valencia Ibercaja, behind the World fastest woman over the 10km distance Agnes Ngetich, who clocked 28:46.
The 2024 edition of the TCS Bengaluru World 10K is packed with pace. Five men and six women have entered who are credited with personal bests faster than the course records. Kenyans Nicholas Kimeli (27:38) and Irene Cheptei (30:35) have held the course record in Bengaluru since 2022. At any rate, the fields are fast.
Anyango who missed out on the podium at the recently held World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade, will battle the World cross silver medallist, Lilian Rengeruk Kasait who holds the second fastest time on paper of 29:32, reigning 10K Facsa Castellón, Faith Chepkoech of 29:50, Cintia Chepngeno, who holds a life time best of 30:08 that she got in January and the 20 year-old, Grace Loibach Nawowuna who comes to the race with a personal best of 30:27.
“I am very excited to be in Bengaluru for the first time for this incredible event, which has gained a worldwide reputation for being one of the best 10K races. I have heard so much about the events hosted in India and the running revolution they began nearly two decades ago. I am very much looking forward to being there and doing my best. The field of runners in the women’s category is quite strong this year and I love a good challenge,” said Anyango.
The five Kenyans will face-off with two Ethiopians, the reigning Tata Mumbai Marathon champion, Aberash Minsewo and the 2022 World Indoor 3000m champion, Lemlem Hailu.
The race organisers have put together a strong elite field to try and lower the race course record of 30:35 set two years ago Irene Cheptei from Kenya.
The winner will each take home USD 26,000. A course record bonus of USD 8,000 is also in the offing.
