
Kenya’s Emily Wamusyi Ngii gifted the country its first gold medal at the ongoing 13th edition of the All-African Games in Accra, Ghana.
The Commonwealth Games 10,000m Race Walk bronze medallist, delivered the first gold medal after a hard-fought win at the women’s 20km walk race. Ngii had her work cut out as she was taking on some of the greatest race walkers in Africa but she was confident of bagging Kenya a gold medal and defending her title successfully.
The 37 year-old clocked 1:37.34 to claim the gold in and was followed in second place by Ethiopia’s
in 1:38.07 with Algeria’s Azz Souad sealing the podium in 1:45.42.
In the men’s category African 20km race walk champion Samuel Gathimba was beaten to second place in a thrilling event, where he clocked 1:28.06.
The walk was won by Ethiopia’s Wakuma Misgana who won gold in 1:28.05 with Algeria’s Benhammouda Ismail bagging silver in 1:31:12.
