Drama continues to unfold as the second place runner from the Kuala Lumpur marathon Sheila Jepkosgei Chesang from Kenya has also tested positive for the Presence of a Prohibited Substance (Methylprednisolone), which is a violation of the World Anti-doping Agency.

Chesang who had initially finished in second place, had assumed the first position after the winner of the same race, Beatrice Jelagat Cherop, had been banned for two years in October of last year for the Presence/Use of a Prohibited Substance (Triamcinolone acetonide).

After taking over the reigns, the axe has once again fallen on Chesang, who has also been slapped with a two year ban by Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

Cherop had led a Kenyan podium sweep and had been followed by Chesang in the second place with Truphena Chepchirchir coming home in third place. After the two athletes receiving their sanctions for doping violations, it will still be a Kenyan podium affair as Chepchirchir will now move to first place and followed by Peninah Jerop Arusei who clocked 2:40.21 with Gladys Jepkemoi wrapping the podium in 2:43.31.

Another Kenyan Florence Jepkosgei who had finished in sixth place in 2:47.01 will now move in fifth.

Chesang provided a urine sample in-competition on October 6, 2024 and a report was delivered on November 5, 2024 that an adverse Analytical finding in the sample based of Methylpresdnisolone and November 14, 2024 the AIU notified her of the adverse Analytical finding and she responded back to them on November 21, 2024, that she took the medications due to having pneumonia and requested AIU for time to provide supporting documents.

The documents she provided from Dr. Kirwa did not support the ailment she had said she was suffering in and after push and pull with facts from AIU she had to admit and accepted the consequences by signing the consequences form.

This being her first Anti-doping rule violation she was given two years ban instead of the four years and disqualification of all her results on and since October 6, 2024 with all resulting consequences, including the forfeiture of any titles awards, medals, points prizes and appearance money.
