Daniel Mateiko clocks world leading time in UAE

Kenya’s Daniel Mateiko ran the fastest half marathon in the world this year in the men’s race at the 17th edition of the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathonheld on Saturday (24) inRas Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates.

The 25 year-old who came to this race with the fastest time on paper of 58:26 that he got two years ago at the Valencia Half Marathon where he finished in third place, lived up to the race expectations when he took the honors with the fastest time in the world this year and second fastest time in United Arab Emirates of 58:45.

Mateiko who also ran the fastest time in the world last year at the Antrim Coast Half Marathon of 58:36 before lowering it again two months later, led a Kenyan 1-2-3 podium finish as he was followed by the 2022 Chicago marathon bronze medallist, John Korir who also ran the second fastest time in the world this year and a personal best of 58:50 with Isaia Kipkoech Lasoi wrapping up the podium three finishes in third fastest time this year and a personal best of 58:55.

The race course record of 57:56 set two years ago by Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo remains standing
