The 2016 World Half Marathon silver medallist, Cynthia Jerotich Limo will lead the Kenyan contingent at the 19th edition of the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, a World Athletics Gold Label Road Race, scheduled for October 20, 2024 in Delhi, India.
The 34 year-old comes to this race with the second fastest time on paper of 1:06.04 that she set in 2016, which ranked her as the fourth fastest woman ever for the distance.
Limo who took seven years off from running due to loss of a child and depression returned to active running last year and has injected new energy as she ran in April at the Hamburg marathon where she crossed the line with a life time best of 2:25.10 and went ahead to win the Nairobi City Marathon, last month in a time of 2:28.02.
Limo who also took part in 15km and 10km road races in Atlanta in July, will have to get past the reigning Commonwealth Games 10,000m champion, Eilish McColgan from Britain who holds the fastest time in the field of 1:05.43 that got last year when winning the Berlin half-marathon.
McColgan holds the European record for the 10 km and she has also represented Great Britain in four Olympic Games (2012-2024) and Scotland in three Commonwealth Games (2014-2022).
Ethiopia’s Yalemget Yaregal who is fresh from winning the Trento Half Marathon in Italy, with a season best of 1:07.56 will team up for honors with her compatriot Tiruye Mesfin, who also comes with a personal best of 1:06.31 that she got last year in Portugal.
The race organisers have assembled five strong elite women who have clocked times under 67 minutes, to try and chase the race course record of 1:04.46 that was set four years ago by Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw.

1. Eillish McColgan (GBR) 1:05.43
