The 2016 World Half-Marathon silver medalist, Cynthia Jerotich Limo lived up to the race expectations when she defended her women’s title at the 52nd edition of the Honolulu Marathon held on Sunday (01) in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The 34 year-old who is also the reigning Nairobi City Marathon champion, beat a strong field that included the 2022 World Athletics Marathon silver medallist, Judith Korir and the 2015 World U20 2000m Steeplechase silver medallist, Sandrafelis Tuei.
Korir who was a major challenger to Limo, failed to match up the pace in the final stages of the race, allowing the latter to cut the first in a time of 2:31.14.
“I’m so happy for today’s performance. I’m so happy for the entire community of Honolulu,” Limo said. “I want to thank the organizers, the coordinators for this race, for welcoming me back to Honolulu the second time.”
Korir was forced to settle in second place in 2:31.48 with Tuei closing the podium three finishes in 2:36.17.
Japan duo of Kana Numata and Eri Suzuki finished in fourth and fifth place in respective time of 2:46.42 and 2:49.26.
The race course record set by the two times winner Brigid Kosgei from Kenya in 2016 and 2017 of 2:22.15 (2017) remains unshaken.
