Cynthia Chepng’eno wins Iten Cross Country

Cynthia Chepng’eno ran away with the 10km senior women’s race title at the at the third leg of Athletics Kenya Iten Cross Country Championships held on Saturday 2, 2024 at the Iten Sports Grounds in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The 24 year-old who is a 10km road specialist beat a strong field that included seasoned athletes like Miriam Chebet, Catherine Reline and Christine Njoki.

Chepngeno cut the tape in 34:27.4 and was followed by Chebet in second place in 34:29.7 with Reline coming home in third in 34:29.7.

“The race was not easy; I had to work hard because we had a lot of elites. I was not expecting to win because we had a strong field,” said Chepngeno.

Gladys Kipkoech and Christine Njoki finished in fourth and fifth place in respective time of 34:50.3 and 34:52.7.
