The launch of the 9th edition of the Chemususu Dam Half Marathon was held today (07) at the Talanta Plaza in Upper Hill Nairobi.
The race that is slated for November 16, 2024 in Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, was grazed by the Cabinet Secretary, Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Kipchumba Murkomen and the race patron Hon. Musa Sirma, the Member of the National Assembly for Eldama Ravine.
The organisers of the Chemususu Dam Half Marathon, launched the race today (07) at the Talanta Plaza in Nairobi an event that is slated for Set for Saturday, November 16, 2024 in Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet.
The colorful event that was grazed by the Cabinet Secretary, Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Kipchumba Murkomen and the race patron Hon. Musa Sirma, the Member of the National Assembly for Eldama Ravine.
The Chemususu Dam Half Marathon, is a testament to this unifying potential of sports, as it brings people together in a shared commitment to protect the environment, cultivate peace and strengthens community ties—all while supporting talent development.

While speaking at the launch, Murkomen said that Sports have the power to drive positive change beyond the track or field, fostering environmental conservation, peace building and unity among communities.
“The Chemususu Dam Half Marathon is a testament to this unifying potential of sports, as it brings people together in a shared commitment to protect the environment, cultivate peace and strengthen community ties—all while supporting talent development,” said Murkomen.
The main objective of the race is raising awareness of critical environmental challenges while funding impactful projects, that include, building a running track and new classrooms at Chemususu Primary School to planting 20,000 trees annually, the marathon also supports H.E. the President’s 15 Billion Trees Initiative, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for Kenya.
The prize money for the winner is Kshs 250,000, Kshs 150,000 for first runner-up and Kshs 100,000 for third place.
The 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games 3000m steeplechase champion, Mathew Birir who is the race director said that the race will pay from position one to ten in both events.
“This race will be paying top ten athletes in both genders with position ten taking home Kshs10,000 ,” said Birir.
There will be a medical camp for free screening, free sanitary pads on the eve of the race as well as tree planning on both on Friday and Saturday morning led by our chief guest the CS for sports.
The race organisers received Kshs 3 Million from National Bank of Kenya, Kshs 2.5 Million from their title sponsor mozzart Bet and Kshs 200, 000 from Sidian Bank as sponsorship money.
