Brigid Kosgei runs the second fastest time in Portugal

Former marathon world record holder Brigid Kosgei headlines EDP Lisbon Half Marathon

Former world women marathon record holder Brigid Kosgei lived to the race expectations as she took the top honors at the 32nd edition of the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon on Sunday (17) in Lisbon Portugal.

The 30 year-old who was using Lisbon half as part of her preparation for the upcoming London Marathon and had plans to run fast in Portuguese soil, failed to break the race course record of 1:05.44 set 23 years ago by her compatriot Susan Chepkemei but ran the second fastest time on Portuguese soil of 1:05.51 missing the course mark with six seconds.

Kosgei was followed in second a distant later by Ethiopia’s Bosena Mulatie who came home over two minutes in 1:09.00 with Tigist Menigstu also from Ethiopia finishing in third in 1:09.14.

Kenyans Betty Kibet and Vivian Melly finished in fourth and fifth in respective time of 1:09.35 and 1:09.41.
