Former world marathon record Brigid Kosgei destroyed the course record at the 5th edition of the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon held on Saturday (16) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The 29 year-old who is also the Tokyo Olympics marathon silver medalist finished with an impressive time of 2:19.15 smashing the previous course record of 2:20.41 set two years ago by Eunice Chumba of Bahrain.
Kosgei was followed in second place by the 2019 All-African Games 5000m Silver medallist Hawi Feysa of Ethiopia with a time of 2:24.03 with her compatriot Ethlemahu Sintayehu Dessi wrapping up the podium three finishes in 2:25.36.
Two more Kenyans Aurellia Jerotich Kiptui and Emilly Chebet Kipchumba finished in fourth and fifth place in respective time of 2:28.59 and 2:29.52.
