
World marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum has passed on through a tragic road accident along Eldoret-Ravine Road.
The 24 Year-old who was driving his vehicle KDL 566F a Toyota Premio as they were heading back home lost control of the car as it veered off the road and landed in a ditch and drove-off for like 60m before hitting a post which resulted to his death together with his coach. Speaking at the scene of accident, the Eldoret traffic commandant boss Dennis Muga confirmed that he died instantly and the third occupant Sharon Chepkurui Kosgei is admitted with serious injury.
Kiptum whose world marathon record of 2:00.35 was ratified five days ago by the World Athletics passed alongside his Rwadese coach, Gervais Hakizimana and the bodies were taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).

Kiptum who was the Valencia, London and Chicago marathon champion had been named in a provisional team that was to represent Kenya at the Paris Olympics and was also to compete at the Rotterdam Marathon, where expectations were so high of him running under the two hour mark.

I think we need to protect our sportsmen/women, they are more profitable than our politicians yet we spend so much on the latter.
