
Kenya’s Benard Biwott claimed his second marathon victory when he dropped his rivals with 10km still to run at the 49th edition of the Paris Marathon, held on Sunday (13) IN Paris, France.
Biwott who will be clocking 23 years next month, waited patiently until the 35km mark when he accelerated leaving his eight competitors behind and forged ahead solo for the remainder of the course o cut the tape first in a new personal best of 2:05.25.
Biwott was followed in second place by Ibrahim Hassan from Djibouti in 2:06.13 with his compatriot Sila Kiptoo wrapping up the podium in 2:06.21.
The race course record of 2:04.21, set four years ago by Elisha Rotich from Kenya remains standing.
In the women’s category, Bedatu Hirpa won the sprint just ahead of Dera Dida. The two Ethiopians had broken away with a kilometer to go to settle the sprint on Avenue Foch, but the former proved the stronger, finishing in 2:20.45. Dida finished four seconds behind, while Kenyan Angela Tanui took third place, 20 seconds behind the winner.
