Beatrice Chebet wins Cross Internacional de Itálica

World Cross Country champion, Beatrice Chebet reigned supreme at the 44th edition of the Cross Internacional de Itálica held on Sunday (17) in Santiponce, Spain.

The 24 year-old took charge of the race from the word go and went through the first lap of 2500m in 7:36 ahead of Uganda’s Charity Cherop, Kazakhstan’s Daisy Jepkemei, her compatriots Mercy Chepkemoi, Diana Chepkemoi and Italy’s Marta García.

The double Olympic champion increased her tempo over Jepkemei to 12 seconds, while Cherop was already losing 29 but consolidated her third place as the trio made up of Mercy and Diana Chepkemoi plus Marta García.

Chebet who was making her third appearance on this course, increased her speed leaving no chances and surged ahead solo to cut the tape first in 23:32 and was followed by Jepkemei in second place 27 seconds later with Cherop sealing the podium three finishes in 24:35.

“It was my third appearance here and I managed to triumph at last so I’m very satisfied.

 It has also been very nice to share the weekend with my young compatriots Mercy, Diana and Sharon Chepkemoi,” said Chebet.

The two Chepkemoi’s finished in fourth and fifth in respective time of 24:38 and 24:46 with Spain’s Marta Alonso finishing in sixth in 24:50.
