
Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet defended her Senior Women 10km race title at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships on Saturday (30) in Belgrade, Serbia.
The 24 year-old who is also the world 5000m silver medallist led a 1-2-3 Kenyan podium finish as she waited patiently till the very last stages of then race then engaged a powerful kick to drop the 2019 Africa Games 5000m bronze medallist, Lilian Rangeruk and the 2019 World 5000m silver medallist, Margaret Kipkemboi, as she surged solo to cut the tape for the second time in a time of 31:05 and was followed Rangeruk in 31:08 with Kipkemboi closing the podium three finishes in 31:09.
Chebet went into history books as the first senior woman to win a back-to-back World Cross Country Championships gold since Tirunesh Dibaba did it 18 years ago.
The second fastest woman in the world over the 10km distance Emmaculate Anyango and World 10km record holder Agnes Ngetich finished in fourth and fifth in respective time of 31:24 and 31:27.
