Another Domínguez Record Falls as Marta García Finishes 6th in World Championship Dominated by Likina

September 19, 2026

Marta García closed out her season with a fantastic performance at the Copenhagen road 5K World Championship. The Spanish athlete finished sixth and, in addition, set a new Spanish record for 5 kilometers with 14:59, improving by 12 seconds the previous national best, which had been held by Marta Domínguez with 15:11.

García snatches another record away from Domínguez, one of the most important athletes in the history of Spain and whose sporting career will always be associated with doping. Domínguez still holds four Spanish records: the 10,000 meters, the outdoor 3,000 meters and the 3,000 meters obstacles.

The world title went to the Ethiopian Likina Amebaw, who asserted her authority with a convincing 14:41. The Kenyan Caroline Gitonga earned the silver, and the Australian Rose Davies completed the podium with bronze.
