Amos Kurgat beats Bedan Karoki as he shatters Tokyo Legacy Half Marathon course record

Kenya’s Amos Kurgat shattered the course record at the third edition of the Tokyo Legacy Half Marathon held on Sunday (21) at the Japan National Stadium in Japan.

The 32 year-old who came to this race with the second fastest time of 58:47 that he set last month at the Copenhagen Half marathon, beat the race favorites and the fastest man on the entry list, the 2016 World Half Marathon silver medallist, Bedan Karoki who had carried a life time best of 58:42 that he set six years ago in Dubai.

Kurgat who was the man on the mission achieved the achievable by crushing the course record and beating Karoki to second when he cut the tape first in a new course record time of 59:52.

Karoki who has been out of active competition for years was left with no other option but to settle in second place in 1:00.38 with Japan based Paul Kuira sealing Kenya podium three places in 1:00.49.
