After finishing third in 2024 and second in 2025, Amos Kipruto has asserted himself with authority at the with 2:01:09, matching the personal best of Eliud Kipchoge. The Kenyan athlete surged to the lead in the final kilometers following a fierce duel with the overwhelming favorite, Jacob Kiplimo, winner of last year’s edition and holder of a astronomical mark, 2:00:28, achieved at the previous London Marathon, where the Ugandan finished ahead of Kipruto. However, Kiplimo could not respond to Kipruto’s tempo change, who quickly opened a gap over his rival with only a few miles to go to the finish.

Kipruto, the fifth-fastest marathoner in history, had already clocked 2:01:29 this year at the London Marathon, and together with Sabastian Sawe, Yomif Kejelcha and the very Kiplimo, forms part of the quartet of athletes who dominate the 42.195-kilometer event at the global level.

In the women’s category, Ethiopian Hawi Feysa, with 2:13:33, defended her title from last year by beating Sharon Lokedi (Kenya) and the former marathon world record holder, also Kenyan, Brigid Kosgei. Feysa rises to fourth on the all-time world list behind Ruth Chepngetich, Foyten Tesfay and Tigst Assefa, and sits just ahead of one of the greatest athletes of all time, Sifan Hassan.

In the wheelchair division, Marcel Hug secured his seventh victory at the Chicago Marathon while Catherine Debrunner was the first athlete to cross the finish line with an unofficial time of 1:33:16 that would constitute a new world record.
