Agnes Mutua banned for five years by AIU

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has banned Agnes Mueni Mutua for five years for the Presence/Use of Prohibited Substance (Trimetazidine), which is violation of the World Anti-doping Rules.

The 28 year-old was nabbed of on December 3, 2023, when she provided urine Sample In-Competition at the Amazing Thailand Half Marathon, in Bangkok, Thailand.

After two failed response on the allegations from AIU, Mutua was issued with a Notice of Charge on 18 March 2024, that she was being charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations under Rule 2.1 ADR and Rule 2.2 ADR (“the Charge”) and that the Consequences included (i) a period of Ineligibility of six (6) years and (ii) disqualification of her results on and since 3 December 2023.

Mutua on April 8, 2024, admitted that she has violated the Anti-Doping Rule Violations and accepted the consequences by signing the form. Mutua received a one year reduction in the asserted period of Ineligibility pursuant to Rule 10.8.1 based on an early admission and acceptance of sanction and was therefore banned for a period of five (5) years commencing on 29 January 2024 (the date of Provisional Suspension); and disqualified of the results since December 3, 2023, with all resulting Consequences, including the forfeiture of any titles, awards, medals, points, prizes and appearance money.
