
World 10km record holder Agnes Jebet Ngetich lived to the expectations of everyone as she took the top honors in Senior Women’s 10km race at the fourth edition of the Absa Sirikwa Classic Cross Country championships, a world Athletics Gold label Series held on Saturday (22) at the Lobo Village in Kapseret, Uasin Gishu County.
The 24 year-old won the race after her fierce rivalry, the triple Olympic 1500m gold medalist Faith Kipyegon dropped out in the last round due to the harsh weather patterns as she was following her a distant second.

Jebet who took charge of the race in at the 4km mark, endured the tormenting hot and windy weather patterns and held on to cut the tape comfortably in a time of 32:42 and was followed by the 2023 Africa Games 10,000m champion, Janeth Chepngetich in 33:52 with reigning Iten Cross Country champion, Cynthia Chepngeno coming home in third place in 34:09.

Second placed Janet Chepngetich said: “I did not expect a podium finish today. Competition was tough and I thought I would finish number 5 or 6.from here I will test myself and see how I perform in the 5,000m and 10, 000m and see which I perform better as we head for the world championships.”
Third placed Miriam Chebet said that during the nationals I finished 7th taking 3rd at Sirikwa was not easy but I am happy with my performance and build up for 10,000m.
