If you’ve been hearing about hybrid races for a while, especially HYROX, the event that has shaken up this new sport, and you’re eager to test what you’re capable of, Barcelona is your last great opportunity to compete in Spain in 2026. As you know HYROX combines running and functional training in a format identical across all cities worldwide, which allows you to compare your performance and monitor your progression. Remember that there’s no minimum mark required to participate in the Open category.
WHAT DOES A HYROX INVOLVE?
The event comprises 8 kilometers of running and eight alternating exercise stations. In other words, you will run 1 km, complete one exercise, and then run another kilometer, repeating the sequence eight times.
For a runner, the challenge lies in learning to run with fatigued legs after each station. Here is the order of the exercises:
-
SkiErg (1,000 meters): simulates the movement of cross-country skiing, pulling down on two handles.
-
Sled Push (50 meters): push a weight-loaded sled.
-
Sled Pull (50 meters): drag the sled using a rope.
-
Burpee Broad Jumps (80 meters): combine burpees with horizontal jumps.
-
Rowing (1,000 meters): complete a kilometer on a rowing machine.
-
Farmers Carry (200 meters): walk while carrying a weight in each hand.
-
Sandbag Lunges (100 meters): advance with lunges carrying a sandbag on the shoulders.
-
Wall Balls (100 repetitions): throw a medicine ball at a target after performing a squat.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO PARTICIPATE IN HYROX BARCELONA?
There are different formats to debut. The listed prices start at 130 euros for the individual category (Singles Open), 125 euros per person for competing in doubles (Doubles), and 89 euros per participant in relays (Relay). Tickets for spectators start at 15 euros.
If this is your first experience, Doubles are a very interesting option: you share the workload of the eight stations with another person, although both of you must complete the eight kilometers of running.
Barcelona will take place at Fira Gran Via from November 11 to 15. Get your sneakers ready and dare to discover the HYROX phenomenon!
