The European and World marathon champion, Martin Fiz, will bring his career as a marathoner to a close this Sunday. At 63 years old (he will turn 63 next March) the Vitoria-born athlete is set to run the New York City Marathon this Sunday, which he has announced will be his final encounter with the distance that has defined his life. He will face his last 42.195 kilometers with the best company, his son Alex, for whom it will be his marathon debut.
Today we were with Martín Fiz at his final training session in Central Park, where we recorded this moving interview in which he revealed that the memory he hopes to leave behind is that ‘when people cross paths with me they say, “Thanks to Martin Fiz I ran my first marathon”.’ Here you can watch the full interview.
