Formentera lived this Saturday one of those afternoons that perfectly captures the island’s essence. The third edition of the 15K Formentera Sunset Run gathered this Saturday 2,700 runners on a day marked by sport, the Mediterranean, and a spectacular sunset that accompanied participants during the final kilometers of the race.
The figure represents a new record for an event that continues to grow within the national and international calendar. Runners arriving from all over Spain, together with an international representation that reaches 25% of the total entrants, enjoyed a program that combines running, nature and Mediterranean culture, turning the race into the great excuse to discover Formentera beyond the summer season.
The mood began to build already on Friday afternoon, coinciding with the opening of the Runner’s Fair and the first activities of the Run & Feel program. Led by Frolik, a runner community with a distinctly festive spirit, a group of participants enjoyed Run & Coffee, a relaxed outing that helped loosen the legs, share kilometers and start to live the event before the main day.
Record-breaking victory at the 15K Formentera Sunset Run
At 6:00 p.m. the start was given from Es Pujols for the 15-kilometer event, with a circular route that allowed the discovery of some of Formentera’s most emblematic corners. The course guided participants through places as iconic as L’Estany des Peix, La Savina or l’Estany Pudent, offering a privileged setting to enjoy running in nature. Meanwhile, the 5K Sunset Run began at 6:30 p.m. from the port of La Savina, sharing the finishing line in Es Pujols with its older sister distance, where runners from both distances gathered to culminate an unforgettable afternoon.
As the race progressed, the sunset’s descent transformed the landscape to gift one of the day’s most anticipated images: runners advancing under the warm glow of the sunset, with the Mediterranean as a backdrop.
In the competitive arena, the victory in the men’s category went to John Keyes, who prevailed with authority after stopping the clock at 50:32, leaving no room for his rivals and setting a new course record. In second place crossed the finish line José Manuel Caplliure, with a time of 52:36, while Fabio Luiz completed the podium with a mark of 52:49.
In the women’s category, Núria Tauler claimed the victory after completing the 15 kilometers in 1:00:30. Second place went to Melissa Nobus, with a time of 1:01:40, while Inés Arroyo closed the women’s podium with a time of 1:01:59.
Also during Saturday afternoon, starting from the Port of La Savina, the 5K Sunset Run took place, a more accessible distance that broadens participation possibilities and brings the event closer to very different profiles of runners. The winners of this race were the Ibizan Adrián Guirado (16:15) and Gloria Tejado (19:35), who, in addition to taking the victory in their respective categories, set new men’s and women’s records for the event.
Among the 2,700 participants in this third edition of the 15K Formentera Sunset Run were also present numerous well-known faces connected to sport, fitness, travel and social media. Among them, the athlete Álex Roca, a benchmark of overcoming through sport; Javier ‘Único Sobreviviente’, a creator of travel and sports content; the sports influencer Ana Turull; the Italian fitness content creator Antonella Cottone; the fellow Italian Daniele Vecchioni; and NoeBss, a Spanish influencer particularly linked to Formentera.
But the day did not end at the finish line. After completing their respective routes, runners and companions continued to enjoy the atmosphere at Es Pujols’ Plaza Europa, where the Run & Feel Finish Party extended the celebration to the rhythm of the DJs.
And when the music ended at the event, the night continued in Ses Roques with the Run & Feel Night Party, capping a day in which Formentera once again proved that running at sunset can be much more than just a race.
