Marta García closed her season with a fantastic performance at the Copenhagen Road 5K World Championship. The Spanish athlete finished sixth and, moreover, established a new Spanish record for 5 kilometres with 14:59, improving by 12 seconds the previous national best, which had been held by Marta Domínguez at 15:11.
García snatches another record from Domínguez, one of the most important athletes in Spain’s history and whose sporting career will always be associated with doping. Domínguez still holds four Spanish records: the 10,000 metres, the 3,000 metres outdoors and the 3,000 metres obstacles.
The world title went to the Ethiopian Likina Amebaw, who asserted herself with authority in 14:41. The Kenyan Caroline Gitonga secured the silver medal and the Australian Rose Davies completed the podium with bronze.
