Alice Finot Shines at the Atlantic 15K Banco Mediolanum

October 8, 2026

And finally a day without heat! That was what almost 1.200 athletes were saying, shortly before the start of the XIII 15K do Atlántico Banco Mediolanum.

Before the start of the Andaina, at 10:00 a.m., the organization paid homage to José Ramón Lete, recently “retired” from the Secretaría Xeral para o Deporte of the Xunta de Galicia, who has supported the 15K do Atlántico since its inception.

Many familiar faces and a few debuts. Above all, the presence of the Frenchwoman based in Ponteareas, Alice Finot, 4th in the last Olympics and silver in this latest European Outdoor Track Championship.

Despite treating the race as preparation, her potential has made her dominate the event, sheltering in a group during the first kilometers to start pulling on the hard sections. Her solo finish time of 52:43 at the finish line marks her enormous superiority.

Behind her, the winner in 2025, Eva Piñel, “first among mortals,” who considered that second place a triumph, as she carries physical problems and, as she said, “in the end Alice took less than two minutes from me and that is something to be very happy about” (54:25).

The third place went to a “unknown” Madeline Lilly, an American athlete but living in Vigo and who, from what she showed today, is going to have a lot to say during the season (57:37).

In the men’s race, Iván Roade said he didn’t know how fast he could go, but that he would try to run 3:10 per kilometer. True to his word, the Nigrán runner did just that, counting on very good sensations, “delighted with the encouragement from all the people I met along the course”. He stopped the clock at 47:06, which we could consider a new personal best for the 15K, although the course did change the route a bit. More than three minutes behind, a young Mario Rodríguez took silver (50:16). Adrián Lago was third (50:58).

For several editions now, this 15K has its “mini” version with an 8-kilometer race, starting from Portecelo (O Rosal); a competition for the fastest runners.

Dani Bargiela, who mentioned “not having legs to run the 15K”, won in under 27 minutes (26:45) with a wide gap over Roberto Vázquez (28:12) and José Luis Correa (30:46).

In the Females, the local athlete Belén Bascoy (33.44) defeated the “Saras.” Curious fact: 2nd, 3rd and 4th all had the same name. Sara Liébanas, a regular on the podium, took silver (35.33) and Sara Rodríguez, the bronze (36.48).

We remember that alongside the two races, as every year, an 14 km walk was held. It’s another way to do sport, where there is no competition, but there are many people who take the opportunity to spend Sunday morning in a different way.

And after the effort, time for fun. Live music with the group Plan B and the charity cocktail to raise funds for ACANPAN, the Pancreas Cancer Association, that legacy left by Dani González, “Un sorriso que ilumine o Mundo” that gives visibility to the fight against this disease.

Con la entrega de los premios, punto y final a esta 12+1 15K do Atlántico, que crece años tras año en participación y calidad
