More than 1,000 people participated on Sunday, October 4, in the VI Race of Rheumatic Diseases, held at the Manzanares Linear Park in Madrid. The event combined races of 10 and 4 kilometers, a 2-kilometer walk, and children’s activities to raise visibility for patients and support research. Ricardo Robleño and Ruth Ayuso were the winners of the 10K, while Sergio Carro and Margarita Pérez triumphed in the shorter distance.

Although forecasts warned of rain, the weather held steady throughout a day that brought together patients, families, doctors, researchers, and patient associations. The route, entirely flat and laid out inside the park, allowed participants of different ages and fitness levels to share in the physical activity. The 10K runners completed five laps of the circuit. Ricardo Robleño took the male title with a time of 36:22, ahead of Ignacio Ortiz, second with 37:19, and Arturo Formariz, third with 37:29. In the female category, Ruth Ayuso prevailed with 40:06. They were joined on the podium by Corinne Schoch, at 43:29, and Elsa Álvarez, at 44:10. The 4-kilometer race, run over two laps, crowned Sergio Carro at 12:27 and Margarita Pérez at 17:03. The program also included a 2-kilometer walk and children’s races, reinforcing the family-friendly nature of the event.

Inscripciones destinadas íntegramente a una causa solidaria

Driven from its very first edition by the Madrid Community Rheumatology Society (SORCOM), the race allocates 100% of the income from registrations to initiatives related to rheumatic diseases. In this edition, the National Association of Sarcoidosis Patients (ANES), chosen by lottery in the presence of a notary among the participating associations, will receive €3,000 for a therapeutic exercise program. The remaining portion of the proceeds will go toward a research grant, with the aim of contributing to the development of better diagnostic and treatment tools. The event was organized by SORCOM, with the support of the Spanish Society of Rheumatology and Reuma Fit. It was sponsored by MM Conecta and Alfasigma, with collaboration from Biogen, Novartis, UCB, Roche, and the City Hall of Madrid, through the Usera district. The sixth edition once again united popular sport and solidarity in a day that allowed participants to share kilometers and support projects to improve patient care.
