Swimrun Madrid 2026: From the water to the trails without stopping to compete
Swimming with shoes and running with the cap on—that is part of swimrun’s uniqueness. On September 20, 350 athletes, according to the organizers, faced the seventh edition of Swimrun Madrid in the surroundings of the Atazar reservoir, between El Berrueco and Cervera de Buitrago. The course linked swimming and foot-racing segments through the Madrid Sierra Norte, without a transition to change equipment between the two disciplines. Swimrun Madrid offered both individual and team formats.
Participants were spread across the Half, Sprint and Supersprint distances, roughly 20, 10 and 5 kilometers, respectively. The Sprint distance was the most popular and hosted the Madrid swimrun Championship.
Tobar and Argaiz win the Mixed Half
In the Half category for mixed pairs, Ciro Tobar and Aintzane Argaiz, of Team Zoggs 226ERS, prevailed ahead of Gusanos by Aeróbica and Maires. The standings published by the Madrid Triathlon Federation record a winning time of 2:45:17.
The podium of the Mixed Sprint for pairs was led by three teams from AD Triatlón Ecosport Alcobendas. Ecosport Team GP A won in 1:29:18, followed by Ecosport C, only 13 seconds behind, and AD Triatlón Ecosport Alcobendas B.
What does a swimrun entail?
The event alternates running and swimming segments that are completed in succession, either solo or with a partner. Athletes may use equipment such as neoprene, paddles or a pull buoy, and they must transport to the finish the gear with which they started. That combination adds a distinct difficulty: making your way in the water with sneakers and returning to the trails with the swimming gear.
Behind the event stands a team of more than 50 people, according to the organizers. Antonio de la Rosa serves as co-director of Swimrun Madrid alongside Jesús Bermejo on the event’s official website.
Editorial note: the press release lists 2:45:19 for the Mixed Half; the time 2:45:17 published in the federation classification has been used.
