Perhaps the idea has already sunk in among popular athletes: the importance of a stress test. Yet we still haven’t managed to make it a priority. We might think it’s essential for beginners (and it is), but it carries just as much importance for recreational athletes who already have years of experience. Not only to be aware of our cardiovascular health but also because it is the most reliable way to access the metrics that will help us tailor and improve our training. We may think that the stress test, due to its cost, is reserved only for professionals. And nothing could be further from the truth. They can cost around 120 euros, an amount that we recreational athletes are willing to pay without hesitation (and much more) for carbon-plated running shoes, for a new cycling bib shorts, or for a tri-suit with our name on it.
We have spoken with Dr. María Jesús Núñez, of Healthing, who in this video—and in under three minutes—outlines the essential takeaways about the stress test. A must-watch!
