[Video] Rodrigue Kizera’s First Spanish National Record: How Many More Will Come?

September 6, 2026

Spanish athletics already totals 100 national records in 2026 across all categories, with the latest achieved by a very special protagonist: Rodrigue Kwizera. The athlete, who obtained Spanish nationality last May, broke the Spanish 10-kilometre record in Prague with a time of 27:15.

Kwizera shaved 10 seconds off the previous national best, the 27:25 of Said Mechaal, achieved in Valencia last January. Curiously, Mechaal also competed in the Prague race and finished with a time of 27:59.

I’ve always been fascinated by the stories hidden behind a stopwatch, a finish line or a record-breaking performance. At Athletics News, I cover athletes, competitions and the moments shaping track and field, with a particular interest in the people and journeys behind the results.
