The inaugural Power of One Wangari Maathai Marathon was launched today at a colorful ceremony held at the River Cafe in Karura Forest in Nairobi.
The race which is in honor of celebrating and promoting the legacy of professor Wangari Muta Maathai, in promoting climate change and environmental sustainability, human rights, democracy, peace, international solidarity, women and children empowerment and provide opportunities for local amateur athletes to excel, is slated to be held on March 3, 2024 in Karura Forest.
The race will be in four categories; 21km, 10km, 5km and 2km for kids with a target number of 2000 participants due to the limited venue. The race registration is open and charges are going for Kshs 2000/-.
