100m showdown: Akani Simbine battles Ferdinand Omanyala.

Former Africa 100m record holder, Akani Simbine, who is just fresh from winning his first individual global medal at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, will face off with the current record holder and the fastest individual on the continent, Ferdinand Omanyala at the FNB Botswana Golden Grand Prix slated to be held today in Gaborone.

The 31 year-old who holds a 100m life time best of 9.82, which is also the South Africa National Record, that he got at the summer Olympics where he finished fourth will battle Omanyala, the Kenyan sprint powerhouse who set the African 100m record of 9.77 in Nairobi four years ago. Another title contender is South African Benjamin Richardson, who ran a personal best of 9.86 last year not forgetting the dark horse Emmanuel Eseme from Cameroon of personal best 9.96.
