Fifteen countries have confirmed appearance at the third edition of the Sirikwa Classic Cross Country Championships, a World Athletics Tour-Gold, scheduled for tomorrow at the Lobo Village in Kapseret in Uasin Gishu County.
Speaking to the press during the launch of the event at Boma Inn Hotel in Eldoret, the race Meet director Barnaba Korir said that he is proud of the increase in numbers of foreign athletes and increase of participating nations.
“We have 29 foreign athletes from 15 countries competing tomorrow, we urge all fans to come see foreign athletes and our stars compete locally, we shall also have kids’ event, masters and senior masters for the community to have a chance to compete,” said Korir.
Looking at the entry and the athletes who have confirmed for the event, I’m proud that the event is growing and my aim as the meet director is to make the race bigger to”, he emphasized.
Korir who also doubles up as the Athletics Kenya Youth and Development director also noted that the runners had raised issues with the way the course is and they had taken keen interest and made the course friendly to athletes.
“A number of athletes raised some concerns about the previous events and we listened and made the changes on the course. The grass has been well planted and it is going to be a fast course.
